We searched for a long time to find such a uniquely appointed example to use as a solid base to modify as a street-oriented build. This Nardo Gray F80 M3 was the perfect place to start, and we enjoyed the process of improving on the chassis almost as much we enjoyed putting miles on the car once it was complete. Although the BMW ended up with some pretty harcore equipment—KW Clubsport coilovers, AP Racing brakes, a whole lot of 200-treadwear rubber, and much more—it's still on the more mild end of our usual work. We listed it on Bring a Trailer, where it sold and went to a very enthusiastic and excited new owner halfway across the country. The listing and full description of modifications is provided below.
This 2017 BMW M3 is a Competition Package sedan that was delivered new in Individual Nardo Gray over a black Merino leather interior. Power comes from a twin-turbocharged 3.0L inline-six paired with a seven-speed DCT automatic transmission and an active differential. Features include heated front and rear seats, folding rear seats, rear sun shades, automatic climate control, a backup camera, navigation, an infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity, and a carbon-fiber roof. Under previous ownership an M Performance spoiler, diffuser, titanium exhaust system, and steering wheel were installed, and paint-protection film was applied in July 2021. After the current owner acquired the car in November 2021 an AP Racing big-brake kit, KW Clubsport coilovers, 19″ BC Forged wheels, Emporium headlights, and red seatbelts were added. The owner has driven 2,400 of the car’s 15k miles, and an oil change was performed in preparation for the sale. This F80 M3 sold on BaT in July 2022.
The car is finished in BMW Individual Nardograu (P6K/7) complemented by Shadowline trim and a carbon-fiber roof panel, front lip, and mirror covers. The headlights have been fitted with carbon-fiber inlays and other components from Auto Emporium, and additional exterior modifications are said to include BMW Klass carbon-fiber side diffusers as well as and M Performance components consisting of a trunk spoiler and rear diffuser. Reflector inserts matching the body and an IND Distribution “Competition” emblem have also been added.
Under previous ownership in July 2021 a paint-correction service was performed, and Stek USA self-healing paint-protection film was added to the nose, mirrors, and rocker panels. A ceramic coating was also added at this time.
BC Forged 19″ wheels with silver-colored faces and black outer barrels are mounted with Falken Azenis RT660 tires measuring 265/35 up front and 305/30 at the rear. The suspension and brakes have been modified with KW Clubsport two-way coilovers as well as an AP Racing Radical-series big-brake kit with red calipers. The wheels, brakes, and suspension were installed in May 2022. The car received the Competition Package from the factory, and removed suspension and brake components will be included with the car.
The Black Full Merino Leather interior features bolstered front seats with open backrests, and the rear seats fold flat to extend storage space into the trunk. Amenities include power-adjustable and heated front seats, heated rear seats, multi-zone climate control, a rear window shade, manual side shades in the rear, a backup camera, navigation, and a factory stereo with Bluetooth connectivity. Red IND seatbelts and an engine-start button as well as WeatherTech front, rear, and trunk mats have been added. The following components have been installed:
The multi-function M Performance steering wheel is trimmed in leather, Alcantara, and carbon fiber and also features a red center marker as well as red M-mode buttons. The wheel sits ahead of IND carbon-fiber shift paddles and instrumentation including a 200-mph speedometer, an 8,500-rpm tachometer, auxiliary gauges, and digital screens. The digital odometer shows 15k miles, approximately 2,400 of which have been added by the current owner.
The Competition Package increased output of the twin-turbocharged 3.0L S55 inline-six to 444 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque in stock trim. An M Performance V1 titanium exhaust system with carbon-fiber-trimmed exhaust tips was added under previous ownership, and Macht Schnell red charge-intake scoops visible through the front grille have also been fitted. The oil was changed in preparation for the sale.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission with automatic and manual modes. The car received an electronically controlled Active M differential from the factory.
